Clinic Owner & Operator

Dr. Johanna Brouwer ND

My desire is for my patients to be empowered by their health, through knowledge and self-care, and to not be limited by a diagnosis.

I had a roundabout journey of discovering naturopathic medicine – through exposure as an EMT, a medical caseworker for refugees, and travels through Tanzania and Ecuador, I quickly realized the limitations of conventional medicine. What ultimately inspired me were my studies in public health in Ecuador, where I had the chance to discover how rural communities depend on certain herbs and plants for common ailments. I knew that health and wellness had to exist beyond just a diagnosis and pharmaceutical treatment. I wanted to know more and wanted to be involved in a type of medical care that treated a person instead of a disease, and focused on preventive care. So when my mother started seeing a Naturopathic Physician and I had a chance to discuss my own questions with her ND, I felt like I had finally found a place in the medical field that I could truly stand behind.

I love to treat the whole family, focusing on the role of digestion as the gateway to health. I am passionate about treating women’s hormones in all stages of life – my goal is for patients to feel educated and empowered about their bodies.

Dr. Monique Hallee ND

Over the course of eight years Dr. Hallee ND completed studies at St Francis Xavier University and the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine to earn her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine with concurrent program completion through Charles University and Bowen College. Her motivation for this type of education, and the way she studied it, was inspired by the work of missionaries who shared their experiences with her. She has made an effort to both study and provide care globally. This has taken her to different regions of Canada, the USA, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Bolivia and Cuba.

While she has made roots at Meditrine clinic since 2014, Dr Hallee ND has also reached a wide audience by writing research and magazine articles in various topics of naturopathic medicine. In addition, Dr Hallee ND has also delivered presentations on health topics to various audiences and has taught and assisted in lectures at her alma mater.

Nigel Chuah, Acupuncturist

A patient-led treatment is the approach I use in my TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practice. It's your body. It's your health journey. And you know best how your body has responded to all sorts of stimulus throughout your life.  Through a TCM approach, we can address digestive issues, muscular injury, repetitive strain, support for cancer survivors, chronic fatigue, immune support, or other concerns.

I remember suffering from IBS and stomach pain in my early 20s and muscular shoulder cramps in my 30s. I sought a lot of professional help during these decades. And acupuncture was one of the modalities that significantly healed me. It’s amazing to me that I feel healthier now in my 40s than I did in my younger years. It is why I pursued this career. And I am grateful to be able to share this healing modality now through TCM and acupuncture.

I use techniques to reduce discomfort and pain during your acupuncture treatment. I can also use magnets instead of needles, which is especially helpful for treating older children, teens, or anyone not fond of needles.

In your treatment, I can recommend potential diet or lifestyle changes through a TCM lens, to promote healing and maintain health. Again, working with you is the focus. What can we work on that will be sustainable, and within your existing lifestyle and diet?

I have been living in Langley for over 16 years with my partner and son. You may occasionally see me skateboarding in the neighborhood, hiking the Houston Trail, or riding my motorbike in Glen Valley. I also enjoy a good book indoors on a rainy day. And I enjoy a good pun. So if you know one, needles to say, I would love to hear it.
